This course applies and develops the rhythmic, melodic, and harmonic materials of Music Theory IV through ear training, sight singing, analysis, and dictation.

- Melodic and Harmonic:
- Advanced chromaticism, including
- modulations to distantly-related keys
- mode mixture
- non-dominant 7th chords
- Neapolitan and augmented 6th chords
- extended and altered chords
- diatonic modes
- non-diatonic and synthetic scales: whole-tone, pentatonic, octatonic
- Post-tonal materials, including pitch sets, tone rows, and post-tonal melodies
- Advanced chromaticism, including
- Advanced rhythmic topics, including
- irregular beat divisions
- polyrhythms
- asymmetrical and mixed meters
Additional activities
- Perform and sight-read rhythmic exercises in two and three parts
- Perform single line rhythm and sight-singing exercises while conducting
- Detect errors in rhythm, pitch, and/or solfege
- Perform exercises in one or more parts (canons, duets, chorales, sing and play the piano, sing and clap rhythms, etc.)
