General Description
This course is for the study, rehearsal, and public performance of literature appropriate to the ensemble, with an emphasis on the development of skills needed to perform within a large ensemble. Different literature will be studied each semester. Choice of ensemble is based on each student’s identified major instrument or voice. The course is repeatable for credit the maximum times allowable by regulation.

Students study the performance traditions for the specific ensemble. General course content includes aspects of rhythm, intonation, articulation, and expressive elements. When appropriate other content studied may include blend and balance while performing with others, improvisation and standards of conduct when rehearsing/performing.

Objectives
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:
- Play or sing in time with section and ensemble as directed.
- Play or sing the correct pitches as indicated with accurate intonation.
- Play or sing with the articulation, dynamics, phrasing, and expression as directed.
- Play or sing appropriately with the ensemble.
- Play or sing stylistically appropriately to the period/style of the composition.
- Perform improvised solos as applicable.
- Demonstrate appropriate blend and balance within the ensemble and/or the section.
- Memorize performance repertoire as directed.
- Adhere to professional level ensemble performance and rehearsal standards of conduct.
