General Description
In this course students will learn the concepts and skills that build the foundations of project management—project integration, scope, time, cost, quality, human resources, communications, risk, and procurement—within an information technology (IT) environment. This course specifically builds project management skills in the information technology field and helps to prepare students for project management certifications exams, such as CompTIA Project+ or Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM).

Objectives
At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to:
- Explain what a project is, what project management means, and how it improves the success of information technology projects.
- List the skills and attributes of a good project manager both in general and more specifically in the information technology field.
- List and describe the ten project management knowledge areas – project, integration, scope, time, cost, quality, human resource, communications, risk, and procurement and stakeholder management.
- Apply the project management processes of initiating, planning, executing, controlling, and closing by working on a group project as a project manager or active team member.
- Implement good project management by sharing examples of good and bad project management, keeping a journal throughout the course for personal reflection, and using knowledge and skills developed in this class in other settings.
- Articulate the types of business needs that can be addressed using information technology-based solutions.
Evaluation Methods
Evaluation will include hands-on projects and a combination of examinations, presentations, discussions, or problem-solving assignments.
