Music Theory II (corequisite) Appropriate level piano study

This course resides in a sequence, and elements of this course may appear in another course within the sequence. 

Minimum topics:

1. Melodic and Harmonic:
   1. continued incorporation of fundamental patterns from Musicianship I
   2. major and minor keys including leaps within all diatonic triads and the V7
   3. expanded phrase structure within simple melodic forms
   4. common diatonic chord progressions with inversions
2. Rhythmic:
   1. common rhythmic patterns using the subdivision of the beat
   2. common dotted patterns up to the subdivision of the beat
   3. triplets at the division level

Possible teaching activities

• Perform and sight-read rhythmic exercises in two and three parts
• Perform single line rhythm and sight-singing exercises while conducting
• Detect errors in rhythm, pitch, and/or solfege
• Perform exercises in one or more parts (canons, duets, chorales, sing and play the piano, sing and clap rhythms, etc.)
